Cartier Receipt: Documenting a Jeweller of Kings Purchase

Cartier: The Jeweller That Requires the Most Documentation

Cartier is arguably the most document-intensive retail brand in the world. When you buy a Love bracelet or a Panthère watch, Cartier provides: a purchase receipt, a certificate of authenticity, an international warranty card, and — for watches — a movement card. The receipt is just one piece of a documentation package. It's the most frequently needed piece, however, because it establishes the purchase price and date for insurance and resale purposes.

What a Cartier Receipt Looks Like

Cartier purchase documentation is formal and understated — the Cartier wordmark in red, white background, no unnecessary design elements. For boutique purchases, the document is often a printed invoice rather than an email receipt. Online purchases generate an order confirmation email showing the order reference, item name and reference code (e.g. "Love Bracelet — 18K Yellow Gold — 4 Diamonds — B6035917"), price, VAT breakdown, and boutique or delivery details. Serial numbers for watches and significant jewellery pieces are recorded on the warranty card rather than the receipt.

Cartier Resale: Documentation is the Asset

A Cartier Love bracelet with its original receipt, box, and screwdriver resells for 20–30% more than the same item without documentation. The receipt proves authenticity and allows the buyer to register the item with Cartier's service network. Cartier does offer a check-authenticity service at boutiques, but that service works best when the receipt documentation accompanies the item.
